Revisited: The Cannondale Fulcrum
While technological advancements are rife in today’s mountain bike industry, the amount of innovation and experimentation in the 90s was without peer. These days we have the advantages of a solid platform to work from in regards to geometry, travel etc, whereas back then it was more a matter of trying out the craziest shit you could think of and see if it worked.
Cannondale has always been a committed driver of new tech, and their Fulcrum downhill bike stood out as a radical departure from the bikes at the time mainly due to its gearbox drivetrain… but there was a lot more going on in the suspension and frame designs also. And those ‘Magic Motorcycle’ cranks are still the finest looking ever as far as we are concerned.
