The digital camera has made everyone a photographer. I’m not entirely convinced that’s a good thing, going by the over-saturation of phone shots we are bombarded with (and feel compelled to keep up with) every fucking day of our lives. There are still artists out there, but some only think they are.

Some stay true to their roots, and those roots can go as deep or as shallow as you want. When the Polaroid format came about there were cries of the death of film, even though it never took a hold of photography like digital now has. People like Nick McManus are standing out from the crowd by staying true to their roots and keeping a maligned format alive and having fun doing it. That’s the kind of dedication that is all too rare in this instagratification world.
