What is Girls On Dirt? It’s a ‘women’s only’ enduro race. Christchurch-based mountain biker Jason Turner helped start a girls only riding group called Girls on Dirt, and saw “a bit of gap with the current enduro races and the small numbers of female riders. So I wanted to see if we could get more women riding and racing mountain bikes.” The group has been doing pre-ride course practice rides and getting 30 ladies attending.

“Last Sunday I helped coach the girls on several of the stages they will be racing. The course is designed for beginners and intermediate riders so there’s nothing to intimidating or scary. We have linked with local mountain bike club Gravity Canterbury to help with timing and to give their membership a boost. We already have over 90 girls entered, so it’s looking like it might be one of the biggest girls only enduro races in NZ.” See photos from Sunday here…

The Girls on Dirt event happens this Saturday at Halswell Quarry Park and is for all ladies on mountain bikes! An entry/intermediate level enduro, ideal for those new to racing but also enough of a challenge to keep the more competitive happy! 5 timed descent stages with relaxed climbing transfers between. A total of 2-3 hours riding for most at a comfortable pace.

We are also having a Women’s only demo day with Trek Bicycles, Liv Cycling and Juliana at the end of the racing.  (Normal open to everyone demo day is on the Sunday as well).
