2017 must be the year that cyclists become test pilots, lab rats and science experiments. The Yonder Journal don’t do things in any way conventionally, as evidenced by their latest venture Project Y (why?).

In their own words, Project Y v1 “seeks to understand why we humans are compelled to pursue activities that are mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually apocalyptic. This will be hard and it is critical that those applying to participate in this project have the same expectation.”

All you have to do is survive the Dirty Kanza 200 mile gravel race and be probed, poked and document the whole process. It’s explained better over here, and even if it sounds all too much to take on it should be interesting to follow the process as others are put through the dirt wringer in the name of science.
