While technological advancements are rife in today’s mountain bike industry, the amount of innovation and experimentation in the 90s was without peer. These days we have the advantages of a solid platform to work from in regards to geometry, travel etc, whereas back then it was more a matter of trying out the craziest shit you could think of and see if it worked.

Cannondale has always been a committed driver of new tech, and their Fulcrum downhill bike stood out as a radical departure from the bikes at the time mainly due to its gearbox drivetrain… but there was a lot more going on in the suspension and frame designs also. And those ‘Magic Motorcycle’ cranks are still the finest looking ever as far as we are concerned.
