The title of this video nails it; Koksijde 1994 really was a significant moment in modern cyclocross racing, for reasons good, bad, and a little bit ugly at times. It was also the first time I’d watched a ‘cross race, when SBS aired the full reply one Sunday morning. Sat with VCR remote in hand, I committed it to tape and replayed it many times over the years, probably until the advent of DVDs.

The way the race played out, the build-up that predicated the drama during the race, and the tough sand course on the windswept Belgian coastline combined to create a classic, hence the above video (from The Flyover) and why it is still talked about today in tones both reverent and reviled.
