Well, that’s the name of the new single, but saying “Head Carrier, it’s a New Pixies Album” just doesn’t have the same cartoonish impact. Anyway, that cartoonish impact is somewhat of a Pixies trademark if you think about it, and the new single of the aforementioned title has plenty of it going on, harking back to the Surfer Rosa days with a rollicking hillbilly-surf-punk riff and not-so-serious lyrics delivered with the archetypal Black Francis squeals and snarls that mark it as undeniably Pixies.

The new album is called Head Carrier and is due out on September 30. It’s the first recording with ‘new’ bassist Paz Lenchatin who’s been touring as a permanent member of the band for a few years now and has more than filled the legendary yet difficult shoes of Kim Deal. Close your eyes and you’ll think Kim is still in the band, open them and you’ll see a more harmonious and happy band that’s motivated to make music again, and not just be a touring act living on past glories. Hopefully this album will herald a new era of Pixies recordings that offer the same excitement that its predecessors always did.
