Friday Film Fest
If you’re stuck inside tonight due to a lack of solvency, a dearth of motivation to leave the house, or just want to watch some classic cycling movies, we’ve got you covered. Or if the weekend needs some filling in, watch the lot!
First up is the documentary following the 1973 Giro d’Italia, Stars and Watercarriers, from the Danish filmmaker Jorgen Leth. It’s a fantastic trip around the Italian countryside with typically stunning scenery and great racing action.
Also from Leth is what many consider the greatest cycling film of all-time, A Sunday in Hell. Cobbles, the biggest legends of the sport, and an unfolding drama make this the definitive celluloid portrayal of the Paris-Roubaix race.
If you want to get off-road and witness some next-level suffering, 24 Solo is the go-to. Chris Eatough was gunning for his 7th world solo 24 hour title, and it would’ve been a fairytale if it wasn’t for an unheralded Aussie who was prepared to push them both to the absolute limit. Compelling viewing.
One of the best races of any discipline you’ll ever see is the 2014 Cyclocross World Champs, where two legends of the sport went head-to-head for an hour of full gas mayhem in the Dutch mud.
If you’d rather rock out, then the Pink Floyd epic Live at Pompeii should do the trick. A trip to the famed Roman amphitheatre that’ll take you to another dimension and time.
