C2

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to trails in this country, from north to south they are everywhere. From bike parks to backcountry, there is something for everyone. When it comes to picking just one favourite trail it can be hard, but we gave some people the hard word and made them pick, and these are their favourites, their Local Dirt.

Rosey and Jordan are the ultimate epic XC factory-as-fuck power couple.

While they both come from different journeys, Jordan with at least ten years experience in multisports, adventure and endurance races, and Rosey coming from a road racing background, only taking the plunge into mountain biking in the last two years. The result of these backgrounds is the same. The burning end goal to push limits, move boundaries and smashing themselves for those glorious PRs.

Coming from road cycling, Rosey wanted something that would challenge her and after working all day surrounded by wild mountain bikers, she gave it a go. Now, mountain biking has redefined why she rides and she can now play in the dirt with Jordan, whose current projects and goals are heavily centred around 12 and 24 hour races.

The climb up C2

Between the two of them, whatever track they choose, they can always find a way to make the most of a trail, from unknown backcountry tracks to the smooth flowing trails on the Port Hills in Christchurch. They always manage to make it a challenge for both of them, with Jordan’s love of the more technical trails instilling a level of deep respect and love for the occasional rock garden in Rosey.

So what are their trail/s of choice, and what makes them special?

C2 and Deviation are just two of the many trails located in the farmland out the back of Halswall Quarry Park, and they have become favourites of Rosey and Jordan’s due to them racing the Single Track Club summer races. The Christchurch Single Track Club built both these trails and continue to add bits to them while also adding new trails to the area; but they are not the only two trails on that part of the hill, and there’s a little something for everybody.

Linking trail between C2 and Deviation – The Crocodile

C2 is a sweet short climb up (or a super flowy descent, depending on which direction you ride it) with perfectly sculpted corners weaving through pine forest and broom. There are roots, tight turns and trees you have to avoid.

Deviation is an ideal width and gradient with beautifully groomed berms which are great to ride fast, and link together giving the trail an effortless natural speed to it. Then it joins right back on to C2 for your next round, meaning you can just pound laps out until you KOM… if you’re that way inclined.

These trails are great for people just starting to ride on the hills, with a wide range of climbing and different levels of descending. But offers the chance for experienced riders to really challenge and push themselves with both climbing and descending.

These tracks are really fun and a great way to spend time together while hurling those old PRs out the window.
