When you’re one of the world’s best and most famous at your chosen sport, you can almost guarantee that you may never have to ‘work’ another day in your life. Mike Hernandez made his name as a pioneering skater in the 80s and 90s, but was never one to rest on his laurels, and realised that cashing cheques from the skate companies wasn’t going to last forever. Giving back to the community for Mike meant becoming a firefighter in his native New York City, and then getting his style and speed hits on the streets in the form of a fixie.
